Barbara McGinley

Las Cruces, NM, USA | Acrylics, pen, colored pencil, fun with found objects | Resident in 2026

Barbara typically draws and paints, but she also enjoys creative endeavors with sculpture using found objects. Her medium of choice is acrylics, but she has recently returned to the less controlled medium of watercolor. Barbara recognizes that using different mediums helps to stretch and strengthen her craft.

Barbara creates her art by borrowing the forms and colors from nature. Whether it’s the beauty of the desert southwest or use of found items from the shores, she is always looking at color and composition.

Barbara indicated that, “It feels natural to be creative and it’s also a great form of stress release.” It’s not uncommon for there to be several projects occurring at once in her art room. Moving from one piece to another allows Barbara to revisit with “fresh” eyes to make changes and improve her art pieces. At times, her creativity comes from life experiences and challenges…other times, it comes from pure imagination.

Barbara considers herself extremely lucky that making art happens every day as it is her source of peace.
