Helsinki, Finland | Sculpture & Ceramics | Resident in 2024
Joanna Hamberg (b. 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans ceramics, sculpture, and site-specific art. Her practice explores the relationship between the built environment and the natural world, drawing inspiration from organic forms, landscapes, and the tactile presence of materials. Through her site-specific installations, she engages with themes of presence, trace, and collective memory, creating works that respond to and interact with their surroundings. Recently, she has focused on working with local red clay and kaolin, attracted by their raw tactility and geological origins. By using materials sourced from her local environment, she aims to evoke cultural memory, foster deeper ecological awareness, and cultivate a sense of belonging and interconnectedness with nature.
