Nessa McCormack
Painter, Wicklow, Ireland | Resident in 2026
Nessa is a contemporary abstract painter and teacher living in county Wicklow, Ireland. She paints to be in that state where she feels wide eyed with curiosity, a delightful place of freedom.
Bold brush marks, colour exploration, inquisitive details and complex patterns emerging from layered textured surfaces are key elements that drive her creative endeavour.
A magnetic pull to travel and experience ancient cultures strongly influences her artistic expression. Nessa responds to these rich and exciting environments in a felt sense of place rather than a depiction of a particular landscape.
Humans are pattern seekers, we have been making our mark since the dawn of time. Perhaps it gives us a sense of who we are, an identity, in a vast universe, grounding us in a time of rapid and constant change.
Having worked in the IT industry for many years, Nessa returned to Art college as a mature student in 2015 to study Visual Art at the National College of Art and Design, Ireland. Nessa continued her art studies having completed the Creative Visionary Programme Masterclass with Nicholas Wilton in 2019, 2020, 2022, & 2025.
Nessa's past experience working with Sculptural Fibre art mediums continue to inform the many layered surfaces of her paintings. Nessa has exhibited in group and solo shows in Ireland, Finland, Spain, Sao Paulo - Brazil and Morocco.
