About David Crum:

Throughout his artistic career, David Crum has used a variety of media to express himself creatively, including printing, ceramics, acrylics, fashion and watercolors. His style has evolved from classical, to photo-realism, to primitive over a lifetime of creating art using multiple mediums.

Fascinated by human fragility, which is heightened by climate crisis challenges, his current work mirrors this interest through accidental clashes of materials with canvas. Using tears, bumps, patterns, splashes, drips, and the texture of paint on canvas he creates light and fantastical movement, reminiscent of humankind’s first encounters with art.

David spent the past seven years in an isolated mining town, which until recently, was largely  cut off from the world and only recently re-connected with roads, bridges, and the Internet. During this time, he was inspired by the town’s history and petroglyphs and reengaged in painting, translating its history into fables featuring elves, vampires, witches and Indigenous rebellions. This collection of cave-inspired art, transforms the town of San Sebastian del Oeste into a microcosmic dreamscape of anthropological history.

David’s millinery, watercolor, and acrylic work has won accolades in the United States and his work hangs in several prominent homes and institutions in San Diego and other major cities on the West Coast.

Moving Through Time and Space by Janice Edgar

If you want to take a journey simultaneously into the past and on to the future and feel its magic and power, don’t miss David Crum’s exhibition, “Stories from History”, at 360 XQMX from April 1-30. You’ll step into a colorful world of movement, power and strength, complemented by a swirl of emotions that will capture your soul.

The exhibition will feature thirty of David’s more recent works, all large paintings on canvas featuring colouful, acrylic bumps, movements and textures that take you to a new realm.

“I love to pull contrasting colors together in harmonious ways,” says David about his work. And you can feel that energy and ‘joie de vivre’ pulsating through the canvas works on display.

There’s no hidden meaning or message in the work, just a freedom of creative expression channeled by an artist who loves to explore the canvas through color and movement, which captures life’s essence.

David’s artistic career continues to evolve, and this series demonstrates how living in San Sebastián del Oeste, Mexico has spawned a new creative path influenced by the environment he now calls home. He attributes this collection’s inspiration to his time in Mexico, which has helped him focus on what makes life beautiful rather than what makes sense. Having the ability to dance and dabble with color, paint and texture has helped him find a flow that you can feel in his work.
