Angeles, Sirenes n Diosas
Artist Statement
The Magic started, starts, interestingly enough with Ángel Wings. . . Who knows, what Ángel Wings are? Is there a beginning, an ending, is it all flight or part of getting where you’re going? Or really “where you’re trying to get to.” Now. Or later?
Well the truth is it really started with the Mermaids. Okay, it started with my Mom but that’s an older story so lets stay with the mermaids for now. Las Sirenas! The Mermaids, and the lake and they are pis**ed, right? It’s the water, it’s habitat and fishes and really where to swing your tail. That was seven years ago.
Mermaids swimming in the lake, more than grumpy, dying for some clear action or at least a clean swim. And then it’s about Ángels and people dying.
And Day of the Dead and what are they feeling, really, really feeling? That’s it, motion emotion, the swing of charcoal, a swing of a brush, imagination meets chaos, making sense of colour. Ja, ja!… colouurrr. The brush in rehearsal, brush rehearses feeling before jumping into expression. So that’s it, brushes and hands and color and texture, rehearsing feeling, resolving change and being. Chasing hearts that are breaking. Chasing hearts.
On the street, Fernando, said it best, “Chasing hearts that are broken”.
And breaking and breaking, everyday.
